Single-channel installation | 16mm to HD | 20 min | 2017
As flames engulf the abandoned homes of Aultsville, Ontario with a stopwatch timing the duration of their destruction, a retired philosopher struggles to articulate how the process of perception is to be brought within the bounds of physical science. What is fire? The protagonist struggles to answer, stuck in a zone that can only ever be partially objective, a zone in which personal intuitions and scientific experiments are intermingled. A Kind of Loud Roar returns to the winter of 1958, when the Fire Section of the Division of Building Research burned eight buildings to the ground.
